The Centre for Obesity & Digestive Surgery (CODS) Team at ACMOMS Took on the Challenging Field of 'Revisional Bariatric Surgery'

MUMBAI, July 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

ACMOMS was conceived eight years back to unite the Asian Bariatric community into one voice so that the world would recognize the growth of bariatric surgery in Asia. With each passing year, ACMOMS has raised the academic bar. This year at ACMOMS IX, the CODS team took on the arduous and challenging field of 'Revisional Bariatric Surgery'.

With rising number of bariatric/metabolic surgeries the world over, there is a proportionate rise in revisional surgery cases. The complex nature of obesity with little published evidence on options for revisional surgery and ambiguity around decision making, pushes revisional surgery into an arena which at times may pose a challenge to surgical wisdom and logic.

Experts from around the world - surgeons, academicians and physicians alike have contributed to the success of ACMOMS year after year. ACMOMS IX saw representation from 17 countries from - Southeast Asia, Asia, Middle East, Europe, Australia, South America and the UK, and every state in India. A total of 70 experts were present at the meet.

CODS also launched the silver book on Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (A Karl Storz, Endo press publication). This is the only silver book on Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and the first and one-of-its-kind in India. The silver book covers the A-Z of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy surgery from intubation to nutrition. The book has QR codes, which can be scanned to reveal HiDef videos of the surgery, an extremely novel technology. The silver book was launched by Dr. Jan Willam Greve (Netherlands), Dr. Ricardo Cohen (Brazil) and Dr. Antonio Torres (Spain).

CODS is also very passionate about training young surgeons and has a full-fledged fellowship training program that it has been successfully running for years. This year too they felicitated 3 surgeons from Malaysia, Oman and India who had successfully completed their fellowship.

Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala is a highly acclaimed, internationally renowned and eminent surgeon. He is the Chairman of the Institute of Minimal Access Surgical Sciences at Saifee Hospital in Mumbai. Besides, he is the President Elect of the International Federations of Obesity Surgeons (IFSO), Asia Pacific Chapter.
