The K-12 education company centers teen voice in development of its AI-powered mental health app through expansive high school internship program

SEATTLE, April 3, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alongside, a clinician-powered and AI-enabled mental health solution, announced the opening of the application period for its paid summer internship program. The program invites teens nationwide to contribute to content development and chatbot improvements while gaining relevant career experience. Open to current high school students or graduating high school seniors, the deadline to apply for the position is April 15.

"We're committed to centering student voice in product development to preserve Alongside as an app created for teens, by teens," said Dr. Blanca Jaure, clinical research and development manager with Alongside. "The student internship program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity in edtech in that Alongside receives essential student input while interns gain real work exposure relevant to psychology, health education, communications or computer science fields. We're eager to work alongside young adults who are passionate about de-stigmatizing and supporting the mental health of their peers."

The fully remote internship will run from June 17 to August 9 for 20 hours per week. The interns will complete three different rotations throughout the program in which they will:

• Create a prototype for a new app feature by leveraging research and student feedback
• Improve Alongside'sAI-supported chatbot to ensure it's engaging and appealing to teens
• Develop videos that provide tips or education about mental wellness

Interns may have the opportunity to continue as contracted employees during the school year once the internship is complete.

Student interns will directly inform upgrades to app content and functionality. For example, Alongside's mood tracker feature, which allows students to record and track their moods over time, was originally pitched by interns in the inaugural 2023 program and is now a live feature on the app.
