SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association ("ACC/AHA") published guidelines on lower extremity peripheral artery disease and syncope, along with the supporting systematic review on syncope. These jointly developed guidelines were simultaneously published in both Circulation and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC). Pacing as a Treatment for Reflex-Mediated (Vasovagal, Situational, or Carotid Sinus Hypersensitivity) Syncope: A Systematic Review for the 2017 ACC/AHA/HRS Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Patients With Syncope was published in both JACC and Circulation. Paul D. Varosy, MD, FACC, FAHA, FHRS chaired the joint Evidence Review Committee which worked closely with Doctor Evidence teams for the comprehensive and systematic search and rigorous analyses. The accompanying guideline, the 2017 ACC/AHA/HRS Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Patients With Syncope, chaired by Win-Kuang Shen, MD, FACC, FAHA, FHRS and a writing committee of 15 others, along with the joint guideline taskforce of 17 other distinguished cardiology researchers, was also published in both JACC and Circulation. The authors based the clinical recommendations on the results of the systematic review.

The 2016 AHA/ACC Guideline on the Management of Patients With Lower Extremity Peripheral Artery Disease: A Report of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force on Clinical Practice Guidelines was jointly published in JACC and Circulation in November 2016, with corrections appearing March 21, 2017. There was no need for independently produced systematic review because existing reviews met the criteria for the Evidence Review Committee. Doctor Evidence assisted with the identification and appraisal of the existing reviews.
